P90X Review

p90xThere have been plenty of advertising for Beachbody’s P90X on cable TV. This is yet another fitness program that has been pumped up as the magic solution to weight loss and muscle building. It boasts that a ripped body can be achieved in 90 days. However, this will cost you. The infomercials claim that all you need is the program to get started, which is not entirely true. The DVDs themselves cost a whooping $140, taking the P90X well into the premium exercise video category. However, on top of that, you will need resistance bands, perfect push ups (or an alternative), dumbbells and a chin up bar. By my calculation, this could cost about $250 on top of the DVDs. Not to mention installing the chin up bar will be a hard sell to many.

If you can get past the price tag, this is definitely a very reasonable fitness program. It is designed for those with an established fitness base however, those who are out of shape or lack muscle mass can struggle with many of the exercises (there are easier versions provided, but I feel you would be missing out on the intended workout). For those capable however, there are excellent routines that you will find in most gyms throughout the DVDs and I doubt any trainers would be complaining about them. There are exercises for every part of your body and a steadily rising difficulty curve that builds gradually. This is definitely not one of those exercise and relax DVDs, it is an intense workout and you will feel the ache the morning after. Another real positive is that Tony Horton (the trainer) is motivating and encouraging. I feel his style is one that would please most people, which is not something I could say for a huge number of fitness programs. If you are going to do this program for three months, it is really important that you like the trainer, which is an aspect that often gets lost among the discussion of routines. The written materials supplied are also excellent and pay special attention to the book about diet. As anyone that has tried to get fit before will know, diet is just as important as the exercise and I really emphasise this. Doing an hour of exercise a day before heading off to McDonalds will not produce any results. This leads into one of my annoyances with the package, which is that the DVDs often push Beachbody’s supplements. First of all there are truly no shortages of alternative products on the market and secondly when I pay a staggering $140 for a product, I don’t want to see any advertising whatsoever.

The bottom line is, if you are willing to spend the money upfront, this is a very good program with a greater focus on the eating plan than others. This is definitely a wise choice and too many ignore this aspect when attempting to lose weight or gain muscle. The P90x is a comprehensive package and I would recommend it as a gym replacement. Having written this review, this only applies to the people that actually scrupulously follow the program. For those with the willpower, there are definitely great rewards to be had but I really doubt a large percentage of people will follow through with the entire program. Three months is a long time and while this is as close to a real trainer as you can get, when there is no commitment required, I expect that most people will not experience the full 90 days. This is both a large financial and time commitment so think carefully beforehand.

Popular in the late 1850 all the way to the middle of the twentieth century a device called a vacuum brewer was used to make coffee. This device almost looked like an hourglass. The method of making the coffee is very interesting, what a person would do is heat the bottom which was filled with water, and the as the water was heated it would rise to the top portion of the device (the grounds beans were also located in the top portion). After the device was removed from the heating source the water would fall back down through a filter and decant the ground beans so as the bottom would not be filled with water and ground coffee beans. Percolators were another device that was common before modern coffee machines were invented.

Percolators were introduced a bit after the vacuum brewer, the percolator is a device that has the water pass through a metal tube repeatedly and during this process the water passes through the beans also. When done you press the beans to the bottom and the water rises to the top so you can pour it and have a great cup of coffee. It is hard to describe without actually seeing it work, and I know this part of the article may be confusing, but once you see one in action it will be much easier to understand how a percolator works.
Electric coffee makers are the most common seen today. Electric drip coffee makers are exactly what I described above. The water is heated, after this process the water drips through the coffee beans and is then sent to a pot below that is on a burner that allows the coffee to stay warm. They are the most common today because the two prior devices take some attention while the electric drip coffee makers can be set and you can do any activity that needs to be done, then come back and the coffee is ready to be consumed.

Legal bud is the common name for the psychoactive herb Salvia divinorum. Like cannabis, it is claimed to have dissociative and hallucinogenic effects, and has traditionally been used in healing and divination – hence its name. For example, the indigenous Mazatec shamans used the herb to achieve ‘visionary’ levels of consciousness during spiritual healing rituals.

The plant is native to the Sierra Mazateca forest of Oaxaca, Mexico, and grows best in dark, moist areas. In the right conditions, they can reach a height of well over one metre. The plant produces large green leaves that may be smoked, chewed or taken as a tincture. The traditional method of ingestion (used by the Mazatec shamans) involves crushing fresh leaves to release the juice, which is then mixed with water to create an infusion or ‘tea’. Chewing of the leaves was also another common method, though it does slow the onset of hallucinogenic effects.

In recent times, the most common methods are smoking, use of a tincture and chewing. While it is possible to use a pipe to smoke the dry leaves, many prefer to use a water pipe to cool the smoke. Further, many often find that smoking the dry leaves produces only light or unnoticeable effects. As such, a concentrated extract may be preferred. Compared to chewing, the effects are experienced much more quickly when the drug is inhaled. Ingestion of the drug in the form of a tincture is a less common method of ingestion. While the tinctures may vary in potency, effects are similar to those experienced after chewing.

The primary active component of the Salvia divinorum plant is the opioid receptor agonist salvinorin A, which is excreted via trichomes on the surface of the leaves. By mass, salvinorin A has been shown to be the most potent naturally occurring hallucinogen (only synthetic compounds such as LSD are more potent). A particular class of dopamine receptors, for which salvinorin A is an agonist, may also mediate some of the drug’s effects. Unlike the ‘traditional’ hallucinogens, including LSD and mescaline, it does not appear to have any action at the serotonin receptor. The more modern methods of ingestion have been developed to increase the absorption of salvinorin A. Its legal status is based on the fact that it does not contain the active constituents of narcotics, such as the cannabinoids found in cannabis.

Effects of the drug frequently include hallucinations and an altered state of consciousness, and may occasionally induce unpredictable behaviours such as laughter and slurred or unintelligible speech. Unlike other hallucinogens however, the effects are generally limited to only a few minutes, though lesser effects may still be noticeable after 5-10 minutes.

Salvia divinorum is legal in the vast majority of countries (including the United States and the United Kingdom), though restrictions to apply in Belgium, Australia, Finland, Estonia, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain, Denmark and Sweden. While the drug is not regulated under the Controlled Substances Act in the United States, some states, including Illinois, Louisiana, Delaware and Missouri have passed legislation to regulate its use.

There are dozens (if not hundreds) of reasons a person should want to eat a healthy diet: weight loss, specific medical conditions, general fitness or overall well-being are just a few. Let’s face it: these days if you have the time to cook a healthy meal every day, you probably don’t have the money to buy healthy food It seems like our wages are going shorter and shorter distances so it can be difficult to balance the cost of nutritious meals with the time it takes to prepare them. And that old unhealthy junk food tastes so good, and it’s ready right now

Still and all healthy eating isn’t that hard if you’re willing to spend a little extra time and in all honesty, nutritious food isn’t prohibitively more expensive than cheap sugar, fat and carbohydrates. And when you think about it, since eating is something we do every day – something we HAVE to do to live – shouldn’t we try to make what we eat as good for us as possible?

The first step is going to be developing your own healthy diet plan (fun fact: healthy diet plan is spelt gesunder Ernährungsplan in German). Don’t confuse “diet” as it’s used there with something focused on weight loss – that may be one of your goals but it doesn’t have to be. “Diet” refers simply to what you eat; it doesn’t have to be a dirty four-letter word

So. Start by making a list of foods you like, and foods you don’t like. I’m not going to tell you that you have to eat foods you hate – that would be counter-productive as you’d be far less likely to continue with such a diet if this were the case. But if the only things on your “like” list are Doritos, M&Ms and bacon – and anything with a hint of vitamins or other nutrition appears on the “don’t like” side – well, you might have to find some willingness to compromise.

Luckily, even horrible things like broccoli and asparagus can be smothered with cheese or butter and still be (moderately) good for you. Fat isn’t necessarily the enemy, unless it’s ALL you eat. Fat is good for you in proper amounts and adds a LOT of flavor to foods that otherwise might be rather distasteful.

Once you have your list, and you’ve identified some items that you can eat without causing yourself too much anguish, try to include at least one of those items in one meal per day for a week. A good rule of thumb can be to “eat your colors.” Colorful food – NATURAL colors – tends to be very nutritious and a good addition to a healthy diet plan. Try adding some red, yellow and green bell peppers to your salad, or substitute spinach for the lettuce on your sandwich. Include a bright red tomato and you have quite the healthy day

Above all else, keep an open mind. If you explore a bit and find some healthy foods you like, you’ll be well on your way to eating healthy and living a long & happy life

In the name of hygiene, it is always critical to wash your hands after going to the toilet (yes I know common sense, although truth be told this is not always common) and touching anything dirty as well as your hair. No matter how itchy any of the pimples might be on your face, it is critical that you do not touch them or your face as this will cause even more dirty bacteria to spread on and through your skin. The worse habit that anyone with acne can do is touch their hair – even if their hair was recently washed, and then touch their pimples and the pimple free areas around their face with their hands.

It is critical not to pick any pimples that may arise as this will only make them worse. Combine all of these elements with a lot of patience and persistence, and acknowledge and thank the universe for your healing, and your reward will be clear skin. You also have to really want it. And you must not stop doing all of the above once you are free from your acne. These strategies also entail ongoing maintenance to keep acne away; no different to how we need to exercise everyday to keep our bodies in shape; and no different to needing a shower everyday to keep your body clean. Acne or no acne, I know which one I will now choose.

Uninstalling Software

If you are operating a PC with Windows, uninstalling a program should be relatively easy, as Windows had a built in utility to help. First, click the Windows icon in the bottom corner of the screen. If you have a computer running Windows XP or earlier, it is called the “Start” button. From there, access the Control Panel. In most “Start” Menus, Control Panel is located in the right column.

In the Control Panel, click “Add/Remove Programs” or “Uninstall a Program.” This will call up a list of most of the programs installed on your PC. Form this point, you can select the program you want to uninstall and double click. This will start the programs unique uninstall program.

When the uninstall is completed, you will return to the list of programs. You can chose to uninstall more programs or close the window and continue on with your computer needs. During uninstallation, the uninstall prompts should alert you if there are shared files being deleted that may affect other programs. An example of this is if you were to uninstall Winamp, a media player, that had been set as the default player for you music files. The uninstall prompt would alert you that deleting the program might adversely affect your system. However, if you have another media player, like iTunes or Windows Media Player, you files will still play. Bear this in mind if you are deleting a program that has a proprietary file type.

Some programs require the system to restart to complete the uninstallation process. When this prompt pops up at the end of uninstallation, you can opt to automatically restart the computer or to restart the computer later. If you plan to remove more than the one program, you may want to opt to skip restarting your computer until all of the programs you plan to clear are uninstalled. For the programs that require it, uninstallation will not be complete until you restart the system.
If you have gone into the “Uninstall Program” area of the control panel, but the program you want to uninstall isn’t on the list, you will still be able to remove the program. Open the C: drive, which can be accessed through the “Start/Windows” menu by selecting “Computer,” usually near the Control Panel option. Once in the C: drive, double click the “Program Files” folder.

Within the “Program Files” folder, you will find another set of folder, each with the name of a program. Locate the folder that corresponds with the program you want to delete and double click. Hopefully there will be a file called “Uninstall.exe” or a file that is a combination if the program name and uninstall. This file will be of the .exe type (an executable file). Running this executable file will start the uninstall prompt that would have been available through the Control Panel “Add/Remove Programs.”

If both of these methods fail, but you absolutely need to remove a program, you can attempt to remove the program files manually through the computer’s recycle bin. You would follow the instructions for the previous method–going to the C: drive and then to “Program Files.” From this point, you can select the file folder for the program and delete it either by hitting the “Delete” key or right-clicking on the folder and selecting delete. After deleting a program using this method, you may want to use an outside cleaner, such as Norton Antivirus or CCleaner, or search the system for files containing the program name to remove traces from the program.

Using an uninstaller program is recommended over manually deleting the files.
